FAQ – Transfer Students

1. Do you offer a 4-year MD program, for those who hold a Bachelor degree?  Do you offer MBBS degree?

No, we do not offer neither MBBS degree, neither a 4-year graduate program.
English Division offers only a 6-year Medical Doctor degree.

2. I hold a BSc or MSc diploma in Life Sciences. Can I accelerate the MD program, i.e., start from 2nd or latter year of studies?

No, it is not possible for BSc/MSc diploma holder. All new students are required to start on year 1 and pass all the required subjects.

Different rules apply to transfer students. Transfer will only be possible to the year 2nd and 3rd of studies. A student who wants to be transferred to MUW has to complete the academic year in the previous university, must obtain credits in all subjects, must pass all required exams, be enrolled in a 6-year medicine program in English and have an active student status at home institution.

3. Is it mandatory to learn Polish during studies? 

Yes, there are classes teaching basic and medical Polish language skills in the curriculum. 

4. Do I have to do an internship (clerkship) during studies? 

Yes, it is part of the study program. During their studies, students have summer clerkships lasting four weeks. It is an integral part of the 6-Year MD Program and a pre-requisite to obtaining a MD diploma from the Medical University of Warsaw. You can have your internship done outside Poland, i.e., in your home country.

5. Do I have to do a postgraduate internship? 

The internship is not always required to be licensed to practice medicine in a particular country. There are countries where you can start working as a medical doctor after graduation. Check the internal regulations of the country concerned. 

Graduates who studied medicine in the English language in Poland can apply for a place for the six-month internship (Polish: staż) organised by our University. Polish citizens completing English Division can also opt for a 12-month internship in Polish organised by Medical Chambers in Poland

6. Where can I find a curriculum of the study programme? 

Please check this page to find the full program of studies. 

7. Is it possible to start my programme in the second semester (summer semester)? 

It is not possible. A student can only start studies from winter semester. The academic year starts on 1st October.

8. In what countries will my MD diploma from WUM be recognized? 

The diploma is recognized in the European Union, United Kingdom, United States, Canada and most other countries around the world. 

9. Are there scholarships available? 

Scholarships are available only to our enrolled students.
A student of the Medical University of Warsaw may apply for scholarship benefits from the funds allocated for this purpose from the state budget in the form of: 

1) a social scholarship; 

2) a scholarship for people with disabilities; 

3) the Rector's scholarship; 

4) allowances.

Another type of scholarship is an Own Fund Scholarship – offered to students who have completed at least one year of the medical program and their exam grade average is higher than 4.80. More details here. 

1. What is the application deadline?

The registration starts on July 1st, 2023.
The last day to register online is July 31, 2023

2. What is the transfer process?

– You will fill in the Transfer Application Form.
– You will get the decision about the invitation to start a transfer process, or you will be rejected.
– Once invited to a transfer process, you will be asked to upload the required documents.
– You will get a final decision. If the Transfer Commission has doubts, you can be asked for an interview before making a final decision.

3. What are the entry requirements for your program?

A student who wants to be transferred to MUW has to complete the academic year in the previous university, must:
– obtain credits in all subjects,
– pass all required exams,
– be enrolled in a 6-year medicine program in English,
– have an active student status at home institution.

4. I hold a BSc or MSc diploma in Life Sciences. Can accelerate the MD program, i.e. start from 2nd year of studies?
Can obtain credit at WUM for the courses that I passed during my degree?

No, it is not possible for BSc/MSc diploma holder. All new students are required to start on year 1st and pass all the required subjects. There is no possibility to bypass courses passed at another university as a new student of MUW.

Different rules apply to transfer students. Transfer will only be possible to the year 2nd and 3rd of studies. A student who wants to be transferred to MUW has to complete the academic year in the previous university, must obtain credits in all subjects, must pass all required exams and have an active student status at home institution.

1. I got an invitation to transfer. What documents do I need to prepare? 

Once invited to a transfer process, you will be asked to upload the following documents:

1. Intention letter stating a reason for the transfer.
2. The official transcript of records from the university the student is leaving.
3. Certificate of the student status.
4. High school diploma with an affixed apostille or legalised (documents must be in English or Polish or translated into English or Polish by a sworn translator).
Students holding IB or EB high school diplomas do not need to have an apostille.
5. Certification of the candidate’s right to apply for admission to higher education.
(Does not apply to graduates of Polish high schools or in other EU, EFTA or OECD countries).
6. Decision on recognition of secondary education and rights to continue education by Polish Education Superintendent.
(Does not apply to graduates of Polish high schools or in other EU, EFTA or OECD countries).
7. English language certificate that proves a good command of both written and spoken English (FCE, CAE, CPE, TOEFL, IELTS Academic).
(Not necessary for native English speakers or students with IB/EB diploma).
8. A photocopy of the applicant's passport or Polish ID (Dowód Osobisty).
9. Grade average – GPA (authorized by the university the student is leaving).

1. What is the application fees?

There is no application fee.

2. What is my tuition fee? 

The tuition fee for year 2nd to 6th is 15900 euro. 

3. Can I pay tuition fee in instalments? 

Yes. You can apply to pay in 2 or 4 instalments.  

The application for payment in instalment is valid only for one academic year. You will have to apply again next year, if you still want to pay in instalments. 

Additionally, if you apply to pay in instalments, you will not be able to change your payment schedule anymore this academic year.

2. What is the most convenient way of transportation in Warsaw? 

You can use the Warsaw Public Transport (Warszawski Transport Publiczny).
The most convenient is to buy a Warsaw City Card ticket, which is available for 30-days or 90-days.  

As a student under the age of 26 years old, you can use the student discount on public transportation with your valid student electronic card (ELS).  

3. Where can I find information regarding student communities, student government, scientific societies, university counceiling services and safety?

4. What are the entry requirements for EU Citizens or EEA/EFTA Citizens?

Students who are citizens of the European Union (EU) or the EEA/EFTA do not need to apply for a visa.
However, they must register with the Voivodship (Provincial) Office within 90 days of arrival.

5. What are the entry requirements for Non-EU Citizens? 

As a general rule, you would need a visa to enter Poland. All students who are Non-EU citizens may apply for D- type national visa.
