English Division students and team #ICOMET members Disha Keshwani & Mikolaj Marszalek were awarded by the Polish Ministry of Education and Science’s grant ‘Best of the Best’ (‘Najlepsi z Najlepszych’) representing the Medical University of Warsaw – MUW, which funded their trip to USA to the conferences!
Ceren Eyileten is the Associate Professor laboratory leader of the project, managing Disha Keshwani and Mikolaj Marszalek, who are final year medical students from the English Division of the Medical University of Warsaw who are graduating in a month.
Ceren, Disha and Mikolaj presented their work at the Vascular Discovery: From Genes to Medicine 2023 Conference by the American Heart Association in Boston.
The work of ultramarathoners was awarded by the American Heart Association for the best in Poland, with the 2023 Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award Zofia was awarded as a first author and the team.
Furthermore, ICOMET was represented at the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics – ASPET 2023 Annual Meeting in St. Louis with 3 posters and an oral presentation.
The team was presented with a Travel Award by the ASPET Division for Translational and Clinical Pharmacology Young Investigator Awards Platform and Early Career Faculty Showcase and the stroke study was selected for an oral presentation. We were also awarded for the poster competition!
The three projects presented at these conferences include the miRNAs in stroke and the BDNF pathway, altered ACE-2 network related miRNAs in COVID-19 patients and ultramarathoners’ metabolite changes. Special mention to their marvelous team members Zofia Wicik, PhD, Professor Salvatore De Rosa from Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro in Italy and Associate Professor Łukasz Małek and collaborators Professor Guillaume Paré from McMaster University in Canada, Dr Andrzej Ciechanowicz, PhD and Professor Magdalena Kucia from WUM. And finally, the head of the team, Prof. Marek Postula MD, MSc, PhD, FESC without whom this wouldn’t have been possible!
