Join EDSG

Starting from 2022, the EDSG board functions as a two-year term, comprised of 7 members (8 members in 2023-2024 due to equal number of votes). The current team will operate until June 2024.

In case of any members graduating or resigning during term, supplementary elections are held, overseen by the Student Electoral Commission (Studencka Komisja Wyborcza). The last supplementary election was held June 2023.

In May 2024, elections will run for the EDSG 2024-2026 team, and the current board will be replaced entirely.

The functioning of EDSG as well as election rules are regulated by Regulations of the MUW Student Government (Regulamin Samorząd Studentów WUM), available HERE.

For those interested in joining EDSG, pay attention to our social media in April 2024 for the next round of applications.

Please find frequently asked questions about elections below.

Frequently Asked Questions

I want to join! When is the next election?

The next election will happen at the end of the 2023/2024 academic year, with 7 vacant spots. Members elected have a 2 year term, so the board will function 2024-2026.

How do I apply? How do I run for an election?

Once a general or supplementary election is announced, a call for applications will be available on the website of the MUW Student Government (Samorząd Studentów WUMsamorzad.wum.edu.pl). EDSG will inform students in our social media channels as well.

Follow the instructions here: https://samorzad.wum.edu.pl/obwi/

In order to successfully register as a candidate, complete THREE forms:

1. “Application form – English"

2. “Consent to stand as a candidate – English"

3. “Oświadczenie" (Statement on getting acquainted with the rules of conducting an election campaign)

Email your application to skw@wum.edu.pl before the deadline.

***Rules may change every election, so please follow the instruction of the Student Electoral Committee.

Who is eligible to run? Who is eligible to vote?

Anyone currently enrolled as a student in our English programs (English Division, English Dentistry Division), will be allowed to run and vote. Final year medical and dental students are also allowed to vote.

EDSG will not (and is not allowed to) screen candidates based on qualifications or conduct interviews, or endorse any candidates.

Being a group/class representative, a parliament member, or any other organization does NOT prohibit the student from running for EDSG.

Erasmus students are not eligible to run or vote.

How many spots are there?

According to the regulations of the MUW Student Government updated in 2022, EDSG has 7 spots available (subject to change).

If you are running during a general election (every 2 years), 7 spots will be available. The next general election will happen May 2024.

If you are running during a supplemental election, number of spots available will depend on the number of people graduating and resigning. The next supplementary election will happen around June 2025.

How does the election work?

Voting is conducted electronically. Voting cards will be sent to your university email (s0xxxxx@student.wum.edu.pl). The link sent to you is a personalized link, so you should not share it with your friends, this ensures all students will can only vote once. Votes are anonymous. You will be able to select 1 candidate of your choice.

The voting is managed by the Quality of Teaching and Innovation, so that means EDSG or any Student Governments will not be able to see how many votes each person got or who voted for who. Once they are processed by the Quality of Teaching and Innovation, results will be available on the website of the WUM Student Government and shared on our social media.

Can I campaign?

By all means! Posting on social media, talking to students in person, or flying a giant plane over campus with your name on it… You are free to do whatever you want.

What positions are available for running?

For the elections you are simply running to be a member of the EDSG board. Positions, although not required, are assigned with the team after getting elected, if desired.

How do positions work? How do we choose who is president?

Once you are elected to EDSG (congrats!), you will be able to decide and assign positions. The only requirement from the MUW Student Government regulations is to have a president and vice president, the rest can simply be members or without specific titles. If you decide to have positions, you are free to make your own positions.

Traditionally EDSG has divided our responsibilities into roles; however, it is not required. Here are some examples of roles that were given to previous EDSG members:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Event Coordinator
  • Student Rights Representative
  • Community Outreach Coordinator
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Dentistry Coordinator
  • Polish Division Correspondent
  • Social Media Coordinator
  • Webmaster
