The Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) invites the academic community to the inauguration of the 2026/2027 academic year.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, October 5, at 1:00 PM in the Professor Janusz Piekarczyk Auditorium at the WUM Didactic Center, 2a Księcia Trojdena Street.

The ceremony will be opened by Rector Professor Rafał Krenke. A traditional part of the event will be the matriculation ceremony, during which new students and doctoral candidates will officially join the WUM academic community. The academic pledge will be taken by those who achieved the highest results in the admissions process. Representatives of the Student Government and the Doctoral Students’ Government, as well as invited guests, will also address the audience.

The inaugural lecture, entitled “From Innovation to Clinical Transformation: How New Medical Technologies Change Practice, Patients’ Outcomes and the Socio-Economic Environment,” will be delivered by Professor Peter J. Friend, transplant surgeon from the University of Oxford, member of the Academy of Medical Sciences (UK), and former President of the British Transplantation Society.

To enable students and doctoral candidates to participate in the inauguration, the day of the ceremony has been designated a Rector’s Day off from classes (Rector’s Order No. 156/2026).

All those planning to attend the inauguration are kindly requested to take their seats before 12:50 PM. The ceremony will be simultaneously interpreted into English via headphones.

A Holy Mass celebrating the inauguration of the 2026/2027 academic year will be held on the same day at 6:00 PM at the Church of Divine Providence (Kościół pw. Opatrzności Bożej), 5 Dickensa Street.
