Celebration of Cultural Diversity at WUM

Music, dance, color, rhythm, and incredible energy — this year’s edition of Diversity x WUM once again transformed our university into a vibrant celebration of cultures from around the world.
Held at the Medyka Student Club on Oczki Street, the annual concert gathered international students, invited artists, and members of the WUM community for an unforgettable evening showcasing the diversity that makes our university truly international.

From Mexico and Iran to India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Korea, and Poland, the stage came alive with performances inspired by traditions from across the globe. More than just artistic presentations, each act told a story about identity, heritage, and the universal power of culture to connect people beyond borders and languages.
The evening was hosted by English Division students Brendan Tadiwa Ngandu and Nicole Doyle from Ireland, who guided the audience through a dynamic and emotional journey around the world.

What happened on stage?

The audience experienced the colorful spirit of Mexico through folk dances and live singing performed by the Warsaw-based group Monarka, whose artists share Mexican culture through music, dance, and traditional crafts.
Our English Division students presented elegant Persian dances inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Iran, while the duo Hamdam introduced the audience to the mesmerizing sounds of traditional Persian instruments. Dariush Rasouli performed on the ney, dutar, and tar, accompanied by Mohammadreza Ghafari on the daf and dohol.
Polish traditions were represented by the “Warszawa” Folk Dance Ensemble from the Józef Piłsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw, continuing a folk dance tradition cultivated there for generations.
One of the highlights of the evening was the breathtaking Bharatanatyam performance by Arpita Banerjee, an artist from Kolkata currently living in Warsaw. She performed “Kali Kauthvam,” a classical dance dedicated to the goddess Kali.
The energy level rose even higher thanks to performances by our students from India, whose modern dance show captured the vibrant spirit and diversity of Indian culture.
The audience also had the chance to enjoy a spectacular taekwondo demonstration prepared by students from the club of Master Cheolin Kang — 8th dan holder, former coach of the Polish national taekwondo team, and current Chair of the Technical Committee of the Polish Taekwondo Association.
Students from Pakistan delivered an emotional vocal performance inspired by traditional Pakistani music, followed by an energetic dance full of color and passion.
Meanwhile, students from Nigeria brought powerful rhythms, movement, and joy to the stage, blending traditional influences with contemporary sounds in a performance that instantly energized the audience.

More Than a Concert

Over the years, Diversity x WUM has become much more than just a cultural event. It is a celebration of openness, friendship, and intercultural dialogue — values that are deeply rooted in the international spirit of WUM.
Events like this remind us that our university is not only a place where future medical professionals are educated, but also a community built on mutual respect, curiosity, and connection.
Among the guests attending this year’s event were representatives of the university authorities and faculties, including Prof. Agnieszka Cudnoch-Jędrzejewska, Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs and Investments; Prof. Paweł Włodarski, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Jacek Sieńko, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs of the English Division at the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Krzysztof Czajkowski, Chair of the University Admissions Committee; and Dr. Justyna Teliga-Czajkowska, Vice-Dean for Midwifery at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

And This Is Not the End…
