White Coat Ceremony 2025

On March 12, 2025 English Division students of the 5th Year have celebrated their White Coat Ceremony in the Medical University of Warsaw. This ritual is a recent invention, first being popularized in the 1990s. It is organized in many schools of medicine, at medical universities and other health-related places around the world. WCCs typically involve a formal "coating" of students which marks the student's transition from the study of preclinical to clinical health sciences. The white coat symbolizes professionalism, caring and trust, which the students must earn from patients. At some universities, where students begin meeting patients early in their education – that is the case of the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM), the white coat ceremony is held before the first year begins and is an important part of the Orientation Week.

The ceremony that happened on Wednesday in the University Dental Centre (UCS) was organized by the Faculty of Medicine especially by the Head of the Dean's Office Ms. Krystyna Jarząb  with collaboration of the EDSG – English Division Student Government. Students of the 5th Year, who due to the COVID19 pandemic couldn’t have their WCC in September 2020 were dressed with their white coats by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Paweł Włodarski, MD, PhD and the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine English Division, Assoc. Prof. Jacek Sieńko, MD, PhD.
The room was full of students and their guests – families and friends who support them on their ambitious journey to become a doctor of medicine.
